Hello wonderful humans!
My name is Trina and I am the author, illustrator, and creator of A Happier Year.
I never was going to study psychology, but after I took my first psychology statistics course, I switched my major. Psychology is fascinating, but the statistics were even more fascinating to me. Yes, I am a bit of a nerd and I love that about myself.
I ended up running a couple of positive psychology research studies in undergrad. I received my B.A., Honours in Psychology from the University of British Columbia Okanagan in 2017.
Even after graduation, I realized that I loved reading about positive psychology, so why not share it with everyone? To do that, I created a podcast about positive psychology called Happycast: The Science of Happiness.
At the beginning of 2020, I came up with the idea of A Happier Year and immediately started writing. Luckily I had years of research already behind me. It was just a matter of compiling all of that research and making it look beautiful—which was probably just as much work. In November 2020, A Happier Year received over 120% of its funding goal on Kickstarter.
Now, here we are.
Studying positive psychology made me realize how important it was for me to find my passions, meaning, and purpose. I’ve spent the last few years running—like I’m on fire—towards my wildest dreams.
Since 2017, I’ve travelled to over 30 countries on 4 different continents, mostly solo. I love the outdoors and have dedicated my winters to snowboarding down British Columbia’s powdery mountains and have spent my summers rock climbing. Over the past couple of years I have also spent my hours writing, recording, and producing music.
Currently in grad school, still running towards my wildest dreams but with my nose back in more books learning more about humans.
